...or is it "Getting the hang of black and white"???
Well: Here are some of my and my wifes images that looked just more adequate in b&w. It concentrates on the pattern and silhouette/outline of things:

....#1="Path"..........................#2="Icy Bubbles".....................#3="Stripes"
Image Image Image

#4="Dead Wood"
Image

All blackened and whitened plus some heavy curves in postprocessing...
What do you think?
((you may also guess which ones are from my wife and which ones from me  ))

Those are really beyond color.

Lines, shapes and lighting are sureal.

N°2 gave me a creative "headache"

If you have a dozen like that take the risk and send them to a contest.

Cheers

It happens sometimes. More than a hurt is a shame that makes me think that I have to move my butt and sharpen my sight to find images like yours and your wife's.

As soon as I receive my new 50mm I'll be on track again because I'll have to move to find a decent photo and not like I'm doing right now sitting on a chair with a wide zoom. Good bye comfort zone. :(

Cheers :)

#1's a cracker. Really good composition and suits b&w perfectly. Your wife's getting good

Very nice! I'm learning to appreciate B&W more and more -- however, you really need an eye for light and form. Good shots :D

No one likes circles? I see that everyone likes lines, but what about No.2?

Please someone comment on why don't you find No.2 attractive... It's just curiosity since I find No.2 the most creative of the group.

Cheers :)

Thomas,

#1 Path is a prize winner. Your (or your wife's) black and white work is excellent. And btw - you've definitely got the hang of black and white. :D

Carlos, good question!
Perhaps #2 stands out between the three other images that display trees, so it appears as sort of a mismatch.
At Flickr I got a fav and three comments for bubbles, but no comments or faves for #1. But #1 got the most views...
----------------
Oh, and btw: lines are typical male, while circles are typical female. So perhaps that could explain voting
