Hi all
Anyone here use the Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di on a D90?
Wondered what peoples experience was regarding the best aperture vs focal length. I read you get some purple fringing and other artefacts if you stray outside certain settings.
So far ive read...

f5.6 @ 70mm
f8 @ 180mm
f11 / f13 @ 300mm

I picked one up second hand in the week but not used it in anger yet, hopefully tomorrow...
Had a quick go with it today, seems pretty good

I used to own one, but didnt satisfy me when shooting live objects. Found myself too often with an out of focus shot because it moved out of the focus plane. With the SWM in the Nikkor, it continues to keep focus on the subject.

I got this lens bundled with my 550d at jessops. Ended paying just over £120 for it so that was a great price. Yes it's not as good as other lenses but for the price it is AMAZING. The lens is capable of taking great photos just depends how good you are.

Check these great photos out. These where clearly taken by a very good photographer. Just proves it's not all about the lens.

As far as the aperture goes I have tried it on a huge variety of apertures and the picture quality is all pretty good (nothing amazing, but it's a cheap lens). I mainly take sports photography pictures with this lens so use shutter priority. I select very fast shutter speeds and the aperture is automatically selected to the fasted aperture (f4-5.6) and the images I get are in no ways bad.

Hi Guys
Not had a chance this weekend to give it good go.
I took it into work one day last week and fired off a few shots of some crows in the field opposite to where we are.
I can see what you mean about the focus plane, ive attached one of pics i took. Looks like there's a fairly small window where things are in focus looking at the grass either side of the bird. This was at 300mm f11/200th/s
I thought the macro mode looks useful, seems pretty good.
Brought it as a stop gap as it was £65 as new in the box. I was missing the zoom of the FZ38 ive got. I thought i'd give it a go as haven't raised the funds for the Nikon VR variety, im going to use it for a while and see how i get on.
Will use it for some motocross shots i think and a bit of nature type stuff.
I saw those pics the other day when i was looking for this lens on the forum, colours look great but i think the focus again needs a bit of attention.
Actually the tread has got much longer since i last saw it so l'll go back and look somemore!
