sorry it came with 18-105 the kit lens.
He said 18-55 or bigger will do just fine. Yours is bigger so you're clear
Just mess around with the settings
Aperature (F number) will allow you to control depth of field (a small F number (F numbers are inverted so F22 is small and F2,8 is big) means that more of your picture is focused, while a bigger number will mean that less of your picture is focused and the rest is blurred) and with the shutter speed controls how long the exposure lasts (slower shutter speeds will makes it easier to get sharper pictures but they need lots of light to work otherwise its just black, while longer shutter speeds will make it hard to keep your picture sharp because any movement while the shutter is open results in motion blur but they will be better lit because there is more light coming into the sensor)
Shutter speed is also dependant on the aperature setting, bigger F numbers means you can have shorter exposures...
Anyways, we got our dad a D90 with a 18-105 VR and a 70-300 VR lens.
