Is this a great piece of hardware I know many photographers use spyder3 but which one? Spyder 3 PRO or something else?

is the express worth of buying?

I got the Pro myself and like it. I use it pretty much as set and forget.

Not much in it between Express and Pro. See their comaprison chart and decide if the differences are worth it for you.

Well, a calibrated crappy screen is still a crappy screen.
Perhaps also consider a better screen, like one with an IPS panel. Dell has some 22 inch models for...250 euros I think.

I don't know your current setup, so if you already have a decent screen, the spyder might be a good purchase

hmm forgot to mention what monitor I have 24" Syncmaster and 5870 graphics card to support 1920x1080 resulotion.

Syncmasters are pretty good for gaming, but a TN panel is just no match for a IPS panel (the big price difference is justified), as far as I have heard. My next purchase will probably be one.

It is a huge difference. I have 2 tn panels and no room for another... So i don't think I'll get an ips anytime soon. EOS you'll find as you go monitor to monitor your images will look much different. I like to check my photos on both of my sucky tn panels.

hmm so that can't be helped then but to get spyder to get a proper calibration for the monitor I have.

calibrating it will help it but it won't make it good for photo editing. It's limited and can't be great for photo editing (this is where an ips is good)
