I'll save the press release copy and paste, but if you want to know at a glance what it does, the feature comparison table might help.

The main new features over the previous are a variation of "content aware fill" as introduced in CS5, but the description sounds like it is a little different but I'm not clear how. Should come in handy regardless.

There's a style match tool... again might be handy to help normalise a set if they weren't shot with that in mind.

Ooh, looks like layer masks might be put back in too, not that I ever learned how to use them.

Maybe not enough for those on 8 to upgrade, but I'm on 7 so I'll get the stuff they added then too. This is on my shopping list. Also enables me to get ACR updates again.

This could mean that a lot of commercial photoshop actions will work with PSE now! Let's hope that PSP X will allow you to record your own actions.

Arrived and installed yesterday. Unlike PSE7 which has no activation, PSE9 uses server activation which it does automatically without prompting you.

I haven't given it much use yet. Annoyingly even though I got the "upgrade" version it didn't do such, and installed itself separately from PSE7 which remains on my computer. It also meant I'm still going through the settings getting it how I like it.

The interface is largely the same but they changed the colour scheme to a lighter grey, which I find rather bright and over contrasty. The main background colour can be changed, but not the menus so I'll have to get used to it.

I haven't tried the new features yet so that'll be followed up later. I did quickly try the raw converter. The user accessible parts don't seem to have changed from the latest allowed in PSE7, but I think it got the new noise processing version as the noise grain looks finer now in my first play. I'll have to play with that some more later.
