Hello!

My friend currently has a Canon EOS 30D which takes CF cards, and he just bough an HD Camcorder which writes to SDHC cards. He's got a done of SDHC memory now and doesn't want to justify buying more CF memory, but instead getting and adapter.

My question is... will the adapter slow down the speed of the card (SanDisc Ultra II, 15mb/s) with the speed of his 30D?

I wasn't aware that an adapter from CF to SD or SD to CF actually existed.

You can definitely get adapters that take SD cards and turn them into CF. Physically going the other way isn't really practical.

I did try one long ago, but ditched it and went native CF. However that was in the days when all SD cards were horrifically slow.

I'm not familiar with what protocol SD uses, but I don't think its the same as CF. As such, any conversion will result in some performance loss, although how much depends on the adapter implementation itself.

This thread is old but I was asking myself the same question before.

I bought a CF adapter fitted with my lexar SDHC class6, at first, for my eos7D and it is relatively slower than when the SDHC card was in my 450D with obviously less MPs to process, but still...I think the adater is in it for something. It might also be slow for the 30D or equivalent.

For newer camera:
It is a problem also when trying to make video...forget it.
If you want to use video and the fast FPS of the 7D then the adapter is not the answer.

I use the latest sandisk extreme pro 90mbs (x600) and that is fast!
I do not regret 1 second spending money on a fast CF card , that did cost me indeed 6 times the price of the adapter.
