Bastakiya is an old district of Dubai, with narrow alleyways and restored windtowers.

I've been there during the daytime to take some photos, but this is my first night trip - the restaurant in the first picture is called Bastakiya nights, so quite an apt title for the thread:

Whooo great set Phil, nice to share with us. How was the food at the restaurant?

Lol! I haven't tried the restaurant yet.

I was trying a different type of PP on these shots, which seem to have worked.

My favourite is the buttress though - a good example of the texture and microcontrast that the CZ 2/35 picks up

Cue the buttress...!

A lot of Dubai seems to look like some abondoned retro-styled movie set - very moody with great lighting. These days I like to try and wait for a person to appear in an interesting point in many of my architecture/urban photos. I think an image of a distant person could add a nice focal point in some of these shots.

@kimchi - good c&c. Unfortunately there was no-one around. This area is busy during the daytime and packed at weekends as there are lots of boutiques and stalls in the alleyways. There was one shot I took with someone in that night, but I was shooting at F11 at the time and they appeared a bit ghostly with the slow shutter.

I was walking along the creek over the weekend and saw that MI-4, or whatever it will be called, is being filmed at the moment in Dubai. There are going to be a few scenes around the Burj Khalifa tower as well - Mr Cruise was dangling off it over the weekend...
