Camera Labs

Wellington is famous for the speed at which its climate moves past, and yesterday was no exception. A stiff northerly and I was standing just near the Southern end of the runway (outside the security fence), with my Canon 7D and the EF 70-300 IS USM but no tripod. I think I got the jets sharp, but slowing the shutter speed for the propeller aircraft introduced some camera shake.

Some nice shots Brian - particularly the first one. The others seem a tad overexposed maybe?
Your right about flying into wellington in the wind/rain..not the most pleasant experience, especially in the Beech 1900D (the only plane that flies from Gisborne)

I've always wanted to know, (please don't take this the wrong way, i really am interested), whats the point, or the attraction of taking photos of Planes taking off or landing? the same applies to passing trains i guess.

like i said, im not trying to start a flame war or anything, i am legitimately interested as to what the attraction is.

I think aviation photography is similar to birds. It requires a lot of patience, and in my experience planning. I find the organised side of me enjoys it the most, discovering where the aircraft had come from, what sort of people would be on it etc. Having said that, I do understand why some people might think of it as pointless. Like all photography, it is entirely personal preference.
