Thought I would ask this question here because I feel I would get a better reply. You read a lot of comments that the FZ100 and perhaps the FZ40 might need a "Firmware" update. What is it? Does the manufacturer announce it? How is this obtained? Similar to when my Mac or iPhone has an update, it announces and update and I obtain over the internet while system is on-line or plugged into my laptop via iTunes? As you can tell I am "new" to this camera stuff!

If Panasonic handles it like Canon, a firmware update is something you download from the manufacturer's website, you load it on the root directory of your flash card, put it in the camera, go in the menu options, and select firmware upgrade. They may take a little bit of time, and if your camera runs out of power you can be in deep trouble, so make sure you start with a full battery charge!

On another site, which I will not mention, the FZ100 is in the hands of numerous people who have posted photos taken. A lot of GOOD comments along with criticism. "Firmware" updates has been mentioned on several occasions. Just trying to educate myself and be prepared if it does happen.
