I'm new to HD video, and I downloaded a trial version of the adobe suite this week for fun. I did some tests in adobe after effects, which turned out well in the preview, but I can't seem to find any codec to save to that looks good.

Does anyone know a good codec to use that preserves the 1080p image quality that my Canon T2i sends out?

How about if I want to lower it to DVD quality instead, any suggestions there?

Thank you in advance!

Hmmm... I'm no video expert but isn't that something you do in Adobe media encoder? I just have limited experience with FCP and after effects. Sorry i can't be of more help. Maybe try a video editing forum?

Yup, after a bunch of google and youtube searches, I stumbled upon Adobe Media Encoder with H.264 encoder and either HDTV 1080p 29.97 fps, or HDTV 720p 29.97fps as very good options. The Adobe suite is nice, but takes a while to find out what you're supposed to use for what, they split up the programs too much I find.

h.264 works quite well if you set the bitrate a bit higher.
