Camera Labs

Hi,

With my current camera bag, my flash doesn't fit in so I'm looking to upgrade to a larger bag or backpack.

Ideally, I would like to have all my gear in it including the battery charger and Joby Gorillapod Focus inside. Also I want something that will have more room for future lenses.

I'm around 140 kg (~ 309 lb) so I'm "not the skinniest rake in the shed". If I go for a backpack, it would have to fit me.

I have been looking at the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW and the Tamrac Expedition 8X Model 5588. The Tamrac Model 614 Super Pro 14 looks good as well.

I took all my gear into the local camera shop to try out a bag but it wasn't big enough.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit: I need to store the camera with the battery grip fitted.

don't be fooled by online pictures, if you were to stow your gear into a 400 AW, you will have MASSIVE free space. Also, lugging around that big a backpack does not sound fun.

That's a D90 with the 18-105 attached and one other lens. There are a few other pockets (not shown) that have a Kata rain cover and some cleaning products in them as well as the battery charger and a spare battery.

The bag is by no means full and could easily take at least two more lenses and a flash unit.

Thanks for the replies.

I have ordered both the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW and the Tamrac Expedition 8X Model 5588. As I said in my first post, I'll have to see if the waist strap will go around my large waist (read gut) before I pull out my credit card.

Apparently the Tamrac Model 614 Super Pro 14 is not available here in Australia. When the salesman rang the supplier fr a price, He had never heard of that model.

I have the lowepro fastpack 350 also here is what it contains and this is only the bottom camera storage portion.

Canon 400D with battery grip
28-125 IS USM lens with hood
50mm 1.8
18-55 kit lens
580ex II flash
still enough space for a 430 to squeeze in.

I also have my laptop in there along with the following in the top compartment

extra 2 CF cards
AA battery grip tray
extra battery
8xAA with charger
2x filters
laptop charger/mouse
and still enough room where I was able to put my friends 24-70 in a pouch and put it in the top compartment.

Hi,

The Tamrac Expedition 8X Model 5588 has arrived at the shop. I've tried it on and it fits me OK. I will be buying it at the same time as the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW which is due to arrive at the shop on Monday.

The main reason that I need a large bag or backpack is to fit the Joby Gorillapod Focus (which is about 14" with ball head) inside.

The Tamrac Expedition 8X Model 5588 is a huge backpack. I haven't put any of my gear in it as yet.

I have my gear in the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW. One thing I've found is that there isn't a lot of pockets to put bits and pieces in, like there is in a shoulder bag. I haven't used it outside yet.

I need to get out and use my camera more.
