Hey.

I went to watch some Football last weekend. It's a danish league, so its not excactly the level you see in the U.S. but still, it's an awesome sport to take pictures of.
So I figured I'd share some of the pictures in here. Hope you like them...

I like the close up shots filling the frame, good shooting. Personally I’m not a fan of borders, I think they are so strong they take away the focus of the subject.

I love american football, but being from Belgium, I also have to go to lesser leagues

i see you have 2 lenses, did you use both for these pictures? or just one?

Basicly what i did was:
- Using my 55-250mm (most of the time between 200-250mm)
- Set it to aperture mode and the lowest possible f-number (f/5.6 at 250mm)
- Set the ISO to 800 (or whatever gets you shutter speeds between 1/500-1/1000s).
- Set the AF-mode to "AI-Servo".
- Set the shooting mode to continuous.

And then of course find the right place to sit (somewhere near the corner is often a good spot). If you only have the 18-55mm lens you might be in for a hard time at most sports, since a tele lens is often a must, considering that you cant just walk right next to the action.

Thats more or less what I did. If you want the specific exif data for each picture, I can find that as well.

well, I'm planning on getting the sigma 70-200 f2.8... but as the weight would be a burden for my girlfriend, i'm going to pick up the canon 55-250mm this weekend to start, and then if the aperture isn't big enough for MMA and basketball, I'll have an excuse to get the sigma

Pics look great to me. I am trying to get ready for my sons middle school football season and need all the tips I can get.

First of all you pretty much need a DSLR and a decent telephoto lens (somewhere in the range of 200mm-400mm) if you dont have it already.

If you do here's a list of what's next...

Put it in Av/A mode at set the aperture at the lowest possible number.
Set the ISO to what's needed to get shutterspeeds around 1/800s at least (ISO 400-800 usually does it).
Set the AI to servo (what's it called on Nikons?)
Set shooting mode to continuous.

If you find it hard to get the focus right (like i do) using a narrower (bigger F-number) aperture might help. This will however make the shutterspeeds slower and also you wont be able to blur out the background as well.

Please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong and/or forgot something
