For those who love aviation photography, visit the The Australian Department of Defence Media Galleries. The images (taken on a Canon EOS 1DS MkII with 200mm lens, are of an FA-18 Super Hornet doing some very high speed low passes in conditions of high humidity. Do select the high res images. They are sharp! Wouldn't it be great to be able to get such air to ground collaboration where the aircraft posed for us in this way. I was surprised at the very fast shutter speed used, but I guess that's why these guys are professionals and I am not

1/1000th isn't that surprising, considering it's a jet and all. They probably wanted the background sharp as well when they did pans.

I wondered how they coped with autofocus but the planes never hit dead on, and they used F/9....

That's some bad shadow noise though, even at ISO 250 it's easily visible.

these shots don't really look all that professional.. some are quite unsharp aswell.. if i wanted to really freeze a jet i'd use at least 1/000 aswell.. i'm surprised how low the detail is in the shadows
