Hi Everybody.After reading every review here and other places,I've chosen and recently ordered my Canon EOS 40D (Body) and now looking for some sugestions on some lenses.
Im Extreamly new to this so please bare with me.Im just trying to educate myself as much as possible.

As you may know,having a hobbie can be very expensive.Now imagine having more than one.Music has always been one of the biggest parts of my life and I've invested lots of money into music equipment.Im a DJ and also play a few instruments including Drums and Guitar and some Keys.
Now that Im at a point where Im happy and doing something I've always wanted in my life and making a little money doing it, I now want to focus on something else that I've always loved but couldnt afford-Photography.

I have some friends who are club promoters and one of my best friends is a graphic designer who works with promoters making flyers and websites and is also teaching me a lot.For now I would be taking pictures at various clubs and events,some of which I DJ at, to post on web sites and flyers.Of course this is not what I ultimately want to do with Photography but would make for some good experience.I would like to explore the many apects of Photography as I can.

So anyways having said the above,Im looking for some suggestions on what lenses and flash I can start with at reasonable prices (for now).I have a friend who does Wedding Photography and told me about Used Lenses.

So if anyone can share some imformation or suggestions I would appriciate it very much,Thanks

Hi Josh

I have a friend that takes a lot of photos of "live" musicians and dancers and he uses a Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens if I am not mistaken and he is very satisfied with that upgrade from his former lens.

For dark indoor gigs, a large aperture is a must.

Luckily, the 40D has ISO-3200 - so if you NEED that extra bit of exposure, you can get it from the body as well.

F2.8 is probably pretty good, but perhaps that coupled with a 50mm prime at F/1.8.

The Canon 24-70 F/2.8 L lens is a very good lens, but it is very expensive - and since I seem to be the one on the forum who goes on and on about my 28-70 F/2.8 Sigma lens - I shall once again! - It is great, but if you can afford it, get the 24-70 for slightly better build and optical quality, along with it getting a bit wider at 24mm.

Canon 50mm F/1.8 or 1.4 depending on your budget.
