Hello there

As part of my assesment of which camera system to buy, I would like to know whether or not I need Nikon Capture software to process the Nikon RAW files, or whether PS Elements 6 will be able to do it.

I hope PSE6 can do it, as the £60 to upgrade to it is already in the budget, and i would rather spend £120 on something else!

This will help in the final toss - up between Canon and Nikon!

many thanks

michael

Which Nikon body do you have? Not all NEFs are the same - but all can be opened by Nikon's latest sotware versions...

Hi Gordon

I am considering the D80, and just want to make sure I've covered all the bases cost-wise! I just want to confirm that PS Elements 6 (all I can afford at the mo!) will be able to manipulate the Nikon Raw Files, and that I am not forced to have to buy NX Capture as well!

Michael,

I have just purchased Nikons Capture NX software in the Warehouse Express January sale which opened yesterday. I picked it up for an absolute bargain at £59.99 down from its normal £100 plus price. So if you didn't want to get it because of the cost then perhaps you may reconsider. Otherwise if you don't like it or prefer to use other editing software then ignore the link below:

http://www.warehouseexpress.com/?/sale.html (At the bottom of the screen).

The fact that I have started to shoort in RAW made buying Capture NX pretty simple for me particularly given it's discounted price. :)

Hi there, and thanks for the tip-off!

I won't be buying my camera for 2 more long months anyway, so i'll have to wait and see what happens with new models and things between now and then.

Weeeeell, we can all pray that Nikon starts 2008 the right way by deciding to bundle Capture NX with all new bodies...!
