How comes nobody uses funky straps any more?

All straps nowadays are just boring advertising space for the companies. Im in the process of buying one because I just ripped the one on my D5000, but its a nightmare to track one down :(

If you dont know what I mean, camera straps used to look like this:

or this

I could get right into funky straps... as long as they are functional... I know Black Rapid just made a women's strap that has a bit of design to it but it doesnt stand out a lot

Haha Orsan fair point!

I just like them as they express who you are more than just a black cord with simple "Canon" written in white on it.

Ok let me rephrase.

How comes nobody uses straps which aren't either the boring canon/nikon originals or a practical solution for carrying a camera?

It's a good question and it sure got me thinking..
I like that my strap says "Canon" cause I like my canon gear. Kinda. :)
But yeah, it's just free advertasing isn't it? Oh well..

someone should set up a company whio makes the straps with anything you want written on it, ie, business name or website address, would look good!

I am in the market for a couple of longer straps for my cameras. The supplied straps are too short for me (I am tall). I do not mind funky long ones:)

haha, I got 2 straps like the first in other colours for my Minolta
And, best of all, a REAL HAMA strap, I hanged it on my tripod.

i would buy another one if i didn't like my black/red-colored canon strap but tbh i like them very much optically.
i would purchase another strap though if i had to deal with nikon's straps as i don't like the black/gold-combo
and no i didn't go canon because of their straps and don't even think of starting with high-ISO-conversations :P
regarding those 'funky' ones .. i guess somebody could have done better than this as they indeed look kinda awful
