The thing is the fast phase AF live view in the A3xx-A5xx models still require the presence of a mirror. The question is have they found a way to do it without one? There was a patent posted previous which suggests they have something along that line, but is it production ready?

According to SonyAlphaRumors.com, we should hear something tomorrow. The presentation which leaked out last Thursday from the Hong Kong website 'Unwire.hk', should take place tomorrow morning (European time):

13.45 Tokyo time
06:45 Berlin time
00:45 New York time
21:45 San Francisco time

However, I would not bet on it...

I'm actually hoping Sony will release the A7XX, the new mainstream model and the lenses (Carl Zeis Distagon 24mm f/2 SSM, 500mm G f/4 SSM), along with the specifications . Although the NEX-cameras don't look too bad, either.... If they offer good image quality (better than Micro Four Thirds, both because of the sensors and the lenses) at a good price, I may buy one instead of that Sony 24-70...a move which would be appreciated by my bank account ...so I'd be able to keep some money to get the A7XX when it will finally be released (in case it would ever happen, at last !).

I just hope the announcement will include news that the cameras are already on the boats, and due to be in stores any moment. If the announcement says "And they'll be here by Christmas!" I will be very sad.

Yup...I'd really like to get a decent set before the summer (although I'll enjoy very few days of the summer with a holiday job and resits ...).

Nice find primitive.

Very impressive specs, 550 on a diet.
All of a sudden my 700 feels like the original BRICK Cell phone (remember those) compared to today's pocket sized ones.

Touchscreen rumor proved false? No mention of the screen being touch, so far.

NEX3 looks good -- better looking than the NEX5, imo.

I'd been predicting $600, so $550 is perfect. With tax that's $600 anyway.

The good:
Tilting screen
Bigger sensor (compared to m4/3)
All the fun stuff from compacts

The bad:
No body stabilisation

The ugly:
The body styling... I think the mockups looked better.

Confirmation of lack of body stabilisation is the biggest negative to me. The previews suggest the AF is good although still contrast based. The tilting screen is a strong nice to have. For me, I'll wait and see if they have more appealing lenses first. The 16mm with small aperture and no stabilisation anywhere is a dealbreaker.

Why would you want stabilization on a 16mm? It's 16mm. You couldn't possibly need stabilization that wide. And on other forums, folks have pointed out that wide lenses that are faster than f2.8 can be upwards of $2,000. So it would be a bit too rich to include a lens any faster than f2.8 as part of a kit.

I was originally assuming I'd want the 16mm. It's wide, which I like for interiors, and it is sharper than the 18-55mm zoom in the samples I've seen. BUT... the 18-55 is only a little slower, and a little fuzzier. And granted, CNet says the 18-55mm is a pretty cheap lens in terms of vignetting -- basically, it's a cheap kit lens for amateurs, not for critical users who care about straight lines. BUT the zoom MIGHT be more useful to me than the 16mm. And really, what's 2millimeters between friends? (16mm vs 18mm). This is going to be a tough call.

I can't believe it, but I think I am leaning towards the zoom, even though it is lower quality. I remember the fun of zooming around, back when I was a kid and had SLRs. ...And now 10 minutes later I'm thinking I can just crop wide images to what I want, and not bother with zooming around. I can get distracted by too many possibilities when I have a zoom!

What is the difference between the two models?

The only differences I've noticed is that the NEX-5 is slightly smaller and lighter, and that it records 1080i video (instead of 720 on the NEX-3).
