50 F/1.8 (SAL50F18SAM):

5 lens groups / 6 elements
filter diameter: 49mm
weight: 170g
Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM)
DT lens (only on APS-C camera)
does not come with a hood.

From what I read, unlike SSM, SAM has not received many positive reviews yet.

I think SAM is meant to answer to what the competition is doing. Many of the screwdrive-motor lenses of Sony/Zeiss are criticised for not having a built-in motor (even if focus is tested on par with the competition). So, it seems to me that it is more or less a marketing thing to bring an autofocus motor to this lens.

Well i have finally done it. I have bought the Sony 50mm f1.4.

Should get it some time next week. and will then hopefully be able to post up some pics.

Congratulation Mal. It is an excellent lens with top notch sharpness in its range. I was also thinking to buy 50mm f/1.8 but chose f/1.4 because of its overall better quality. Even the IQ is better in f/1.4 than f/1.8. I hope u gonna enjoy yr new Lens.

Yeah I went for the f1.4 because of the better quality. Ive wanted one for about six months now. And even when the f1.8 came out. I knew I wouldn't be happy if I didn't have the f1.4.

I recently bought the SAL50F18 lens for my Alpha 200. I have shot with it twice now, 2 music gigs, but the photos are turning out too red. I have to reduce the red in the saturation in CS4,

Which of my camera settings is causing this? Assuming it's a setting.

Could it be the tungsten lighting setting? (Which is on auto).

AWB does that.

White balance should be adjusted manually in these kind of cases. It is very hard job to get WB adjusted in night club situations, 'cose of the nature between different colored lights. And most likely you have to make some kind of compromise.

Shooting RAW could make your work easyer. Because it lets you adjust the levels on your computer.

Last night I tried different AWB settings, not as much red cast this time. I shot in RAW, adjusted slightly in CS5, these are my results:
