Hi folks, as my sig shows, I'm currently struggling along with a wreck of a tripod, bought as a 21st birthday present for my dad, who's now 48. I only have £25-£30 to spend on a replacement, although I'm happy to buy used.
I'd like something fairly lightweight, but able to hold my Canon 50d with a large Sigma 135-400mm lens (without tripod collar) successfully. It would also be nice to have levelling indicators too.
Can anyone recommend a suitable tripod for me?

Hi Adam, I'm afraid I've got bad news - it'll be hard to get a quality tripod for that sort of money. You'll really notice the flimsy build quality with a big lens too.

If you want something stable for your 50D and that lens, you'll need to spend more. I'd check out your local camera store to see the build quality and stability of different models in person if I were you.

Thanks for the advice Gordon, I feared that would be the answer really. Well, I suppose I'd better keep saving, see if I can get a bit more cash together

Just another thing, does anyone know if I can get a replacement tripod collar for my Sigma lens? I bought it second hand and unfortunately it's missing.

For your budget the joby gorillapod SLR zoom might be the best option.

As has been said though, that is a low price for a tripod. How about just getting the legs and using your existing head for it?

Friends,

Any suggestions of best tripod for Canon 500D with Sigma 150-500 mm lens?
Mostly will be using canon 70-300 IS lens with camera.

My budget is 250$ NZ or near by can go up or down
