Hey everyone.

Im looking to get a couple of CF cards for my new 400d but wasnt sure what combination to get. I dnt want to spend loads of money but also dnt want to run out of room. Ive set up a poll so please answer in terms of economically sound but alsp practially sound aswell.

I hear the SANDISK ultra 2s were pretty good so im going for thoose. Its just what storage amounts.

It all goes down to how many photos at maximum quality, on the 400d, I would be able to get. (Approx.)

The real question is "how much can you afford?". Shooting in RAW format you'll fill a 1GB card easily in a day. I'd fill that before lunch, lol. One thing I wouldn't advise is to put all your eggs in one basket and go for one great big card. That can only end in tears. This isn't one of your own options so well done for that.

Buy 2 x 2GB cards and be prepared to buy more in future.

Buy one big card from a quality manufacturer and forget about it, imho. Cards don't brake, but those small buggers can get lost :shock: :idea:

I have 2x4Gb sandisk extreme III cards for my 40D, but bought these when I owned a 400D

In the risk of sounding stupid, what is the difference of RAW rather than JPEG, and how come it takes up so much memory?


How many RAWs could you fit on 2gb? How many JPEGs on 2GB aswell?

Ive had another look and where i was going to get my 1GB cards has disapperead so the next cheapest option is 2GB... but i still would like to know more.

On my Canon 40D with a 4Gb CF card it will hold about 315 RAW files so a 2GB CF card should hold around 158 RAW files.

I have the Sandisk Extreme III 2gig. I will get a min of 442 jpeg (on high iq)
