In the video the focusing speed looked pretty fast, but how does it stack up against SSM? That's been one of the main criticisms (amidst a sea of praise I might add). Also, if you get the chance (maybe after semester break), how does the focusing speed stack up against SSM in low light?

Congrats again, and you should probably start thinking about gear insurance since you have a small fortune invested already...especially if I visit Holland :-)

Wasn't it shown at PMA ? I'd be surprised if it takes Carl Zeiss/Sony so long to complete it.

By the way, I've got an insurance: all risks for my 70-400; € 55/year, worldwide.

Yes, it was shown at PMA, and so was the A700 successor. That won't be around for some time, and I guess the same goes for the 24mm...

The focussing speed is good indeed. It's incredibly loud though! I'll see if I can make a video after my last test next week, to compare the primes against the SSM lenses.

Some of my gear is insured, some of it isn't. After making that video, I want to go out and update my insurance, it's about time.

Haha, nice plan Bjorn, I tried the 35mm f1.4 at Focus on Imaging, nice lens it is. Don't think I can justify the cost though (not yet anyway  ). I will wait for your review first :)

Most of my money will now be spent on accessorize, those vertical grips have really gone up in price, will have to grab one before they disappear.

Nikon D700 - Vertical Grip. 24-70mm F2.8, 70-200mm f2.8vr2, 50mm f1.8d and a nice bag to put it all in.

You should have gone shopping for accessories at the Jacobs stand at Focus on Imaging! That's where I got my 85mm, and where I would have gotten the 35mm if it wasn't out of stock... They sold gear at spectacularly low prices!

Sorry, with PMA (bold) I meant PhotoKina in September...

That’s quit a speciality lens. Just say NO to DOF.

Thanks Jeremy!

Here's another shot that illustrates the shallow DoF:
