Camera Labs

Hello everyone,

It's been quite a while since I've posted here... Anyways, recently for Spring Break myself and a few friends travelled down to Costa Rica to volunteer in a small village of about 40 people called "El Sur". We built half a bridge, and while I was there I was kind of designated as the photographer. Here are a few of the shots, and the stories behind them. All images were taken with My D90 + 18-200 VR

This here is Carmen, he's pretty old but you wouldn't believe it if you saw him working. I really tried to capture the texture in his face.




This is Ronald the carpenter in his workshop. He is actually Carmen's son. I was fortunate enough to eat dinner at his house one night to get to meet him, and he is one amazing fellow. So down to earth and happy with his life. I had to get a good picture to remember him.




Sunset seen from Manuel Antonio, which is the Pacific Side of Costa Rica.



The village, though small, still somehow manages to have a bar, and a pool table! Even though its probably the most rural place on earth, they still share a common pasttime with North American culture.

For this shot, I woke up at 4 in the morning, hiked half an hour to a ridge to watch the sunrise. Definitely worth it.

Taken a few mintues before sunrise when everything was still slightly dark.




And lastly the friends that I travelled with looking out over the Costa Rican Foothills. I like to think of this shot as "Daybreakers"




This trip was really fantastic and inspiring too me. It furthured my interest in Photography and Travel, and I knew after this trip that I wanted to travel the world, help people in need, and at the same time photograph the beautiful places, people, and cultures.

This is travel photography as it should be. I feel ashamed when I look at my tourist pics, you really captured it!

I take pictures so quickly, my highschool was "Continuous High".

I love the first and especially the last one.

To bring out the texture in his face there was an article in DP magazine on this a few months back, I think in there they overdid it though

That's a beautiful series there, Eric. That first sunrise is stunning with the little banks of mist clinging to some of the valleys there - can you post a larger version to really appreciate it!

Thanks for sharing on how to make the right travel photography I really like the whole set as it tells the story and environment and I can feel the fun just by looking at them
