I have a similar problem. I have a 50D and shoot in JPEG & RAW. However Photoshop Elements 6/my PC won't allow me to open or view the RAW images. Do I have to download something - if so how and what. Or am I just missing something obvious?

Welcome to the forums!

I think Elements 6 is pretty outdated, and does not support the new 50D raw files.

No, Camera Raw 4.6 supports the 50D and is the last version compatable with PSE 6, I just checked.

Only thing i can suggest is to check that your memory card isn't corrupted.

If it is, format it.

If you can get jpegs out of the card it should be fine.

BTW: doesn't canon ship a program with the camera that let's you open the raw files and convert them to other formats?

Yeah that's canon's digital photo professional.
So...elements 6 officially supports 50D raws, but in practice does not. Are you sure you have the latest version for that branch?

In practice it does, but you have to update the Camera Raw version to 4.6 :)
