newbie here. need a little info.

First off is there a way to remove the bayonet style lens hood without having to zoom the lens all the way out? When I twist it the lens starts to zoom out. So was just wondering what everyone does.

Question two. It only zooms out to 150mm. To get to 300mm I need to use the focus ring. but everything is blurry afterward. Is this how it is suppose to work. Not like my other lenses at all. they zoom all the way and the focus ring merely focuses.

Hood - pass. I just never used it when I had that lens...

The zoom, short answer, only look at the markings on the zoom ring, not the lens barrel, as from memory those only indicate the magnification at a given focal length.

You just need a short but forceful turn to get the lens hood off.

To undo the lens cap I gently rotate the barrel out until I can get a couple of fingers in the gap. Then I hold the barrel with thumb and forefinger while unscrewing the cap. To attach the cap, I try to tighten the cap gently if there's no room to grip the barrel, or I grip the barrel and tighten.

Bottom line for me is grip the barrel while tightening/loosening wherever possible, or be as gentle as you can be when you can't. I just don't want this thing to go all wobbly on me until at least 30 years have passed.
