After a not very successful purchase of a Panasonic TZ7 I have decided to keep my current camera and try to improve it. I currently have an Xacti HD1010 which I love, but the only thing that could improve it is a wider field of view. Currently its lens spec is the 35mm equivilent of 38-380 mm

I know that wide angle lenses are available, but the two that I have found are described as either 2X TELEPHOTO & 0.45X WIDE ANGLE W/ MACRO or 0.5X Wide Angle & MACRO lens I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post links to an auction, so I didn't. I can if anyone needs more information.

I undestand when something is described as 25mm that it is very wide and, but I don't undestand the 0.45 x or 0.50 x. Which is the better lens? I am not bothered by the macro ability, I simply want to get a wider angle.

What would either of thoses lenses give me in 35mm terms please? Also, would I still be able to use my full 10x zoom without any distortion?

The wideangle lens will multiply your reach by 0.45x, so if your previous coverage was 38-380, your coverage with the wideangle adapter will be 17-171 mm (35 mm equivalent).

Beware though that such a lens can add distortion, vignetting, loss of sharpness, and in the worst case you even lose infinity focus (fairly important imho). If they aren't too expensive you could give it a shot, but the least expensive models will probably also be the worst lenses.


Your call. Distorted wideangle is better than no wideangle at all, I guess.
