I have a Nikon D300S and an SB800.

I thought to myself it would be nice to be able to trigger the flash remotely, I had a look through the index of both the camera and flash manuals to find out how to do it, I could not find anything that helped.

So I then flicked through the pages and found out I could buy a cable, specifically a Nikon SC-29 which would allow me to use the flash off the camera, BRILLIANT! So I went on Amazon and brought the cable for £72!!

Anyway, after much clicking around the web looking at different training videos and info on doing flash photography I found out you can actually do this wirelessly!! How stupid do I feel....!!

I have spent all that money, thrown away the box and am unable to send the cable back which I brought about 3 weeks ago.

So I thought I would sell the cable on eBay, however, my question is:

Am I better off hanging on to it, is there situations where the cable is better than wireless? Should I hang on to it?

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received.

You bought a flash cable for 72 pounds? I didn't know Monster Cable made flash cables

Wireless flash works surprisingly well. If you still want to try it, it's called CLS (creative lighting system). It works by setting your popup flash to commander mode, and using some setting on the SB-800 to use it as a receiver (this is NOT the SU-4 mode which is a "dumb" exposure mode).

But the thing is do I keep it, or is wireless a better way forward??

I could tell you, but I'd say: try both methods! Both have their pro's and cons, so perhaps just use both. :)
