Apple just announced the release of Aperture 3.

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/02/09aperture.html

Aperture 3 introduces new tools to refine your photos including Brushes for painting image adjustments onto parts of your photo, and Adjustment Presets for applying professional photo effects with just one click. Stunning new slideshows let you share your work by weaving together photos, audio, text and HD video.

It retails for 199 USD (fresh install) and 99 USD (update from previous version).

I had to re-submit my email address to get the serial number.

Thanks, did that and now I have a serial but no download link from Apple. I'm gonna go look for an alternative d/l site.

EDIT: Requested from Apple for the 5th time and I finally have it.

I think it looks really cool, but Lightroom still seems to be superior...Aperture seems to have problems reaching out to the customers, since as soon as anybody says "Image Editing", the first word that ALWAYS pops up is "Photoshop". From surveys, Aperture actually has a quite small percentage of the market.

Apparantly (from what I've read) theres a problem with memory leaks with Aperature 3. Not good for a $200 piece of software from the manufacturers of the OS...

A couple of points, most people do not know what a memory leak is or more importantly how to measure it (this is especially true of so-called tech users) and just being the manufacturer of the OS has no correlation to whether your software will leak memory.

My advise would be to judge Aperture 3 based on actual usage rather than relying on the noise generated by Teh Internetz

Amazing, that response could have come from the lips of Steve Jobs himself... Bury your head in the sand and shout la-la-la.

*buries head in sand and shouts lalalala*

While that was an interesting distraction, the points still stand. ;)
To reiterate: a) Most people do now know what memory leaks are, ergo do not understand how to measure their impact. b) Just because you've written an OS has no bearing on whether your application will have memory leaks.

Apple has just released a "ProKit" update, that addresses memory leaks on Aperture (and other things).

From your "apple" menu, select "software update"...

Problem solved! :)
