Hello everybody ive got a Canon 450D with a EF-S 55-250 F4-5.6 IS which i use mainly for motorsport, my question is would be worthwhile upgrading to the 100-400 F4-5.6 L IS USM to take motorsport pics.

If you have the money and you usually use or need that telephoto range,by all means get it.Not only you would have the ability to zoom in closer.also you would have a professional grade lens.Better build quality,image quality,sharpness and less aberrations.

You could also consider the Sigma 150-500, its quite a bit cheaper, and if your using it when there's enough light i think it could be almost as good.
Do check out if it works with AF on the 450D, though i think it does.

Take a look at the Sigma 120-400mm. It has the same aperture range as the canon you mention. I own that lens and I am very satisfied with the results. The OS is awesome, and it is much cheaper than the canon 100-400mm.

Take a look at it, maybe you'll find it a good option.

what i would ask, is "do you need it?"

have a look at what you are currently using, and how it isnt doing the job you want it to.

is the focal range too short? is the image quality too low? is the aperture too small?

a lens like this is going to be VERY expensive, so its worth considering these things before you purchase.
