Is this normal that my dmc fz28 is showing a "please wait..." screen with a count down after exposure that lasts same amount of time as the exposure. For example, I set to 10 seconds, it shoot 10 seconds and then it showed "please wait" for another 10. Is this normal or is it a malfunction. Is it some kind of post processing? Can I turn it off or make it faster?

Yes, on a long exposure my FZ38 will do exactly the same.

on my FZ8,it's the same situation indeed,that can be a bit annoying sometimes

Thanks for your replies. It's very annoying when I need to wait double time to see if the picture's right. And also I really don't understand why the camera works like that. The only explanation, is that the camera is post processing the image like de-shaking, but then it should be possible to turn that off. Maybe it's a firmware bug?

It is mentioned on page 71 of the (English pdf) manual. It sounds like it is doing dark frame subtraction.

Yep, that's long exposure noise reduction - most cameras do it this way.

It's in the manual on a page about some scene mode and I don't use scene modes... I wish i turn it off. I don't even see a point when I use a low ISO.

Tell me about it..& the photo at ISO 100 still looks like ISO 800 on my D80. And I was shooting raw with my FZ8,so I got a lot of noise...well,better than getting softer photos in jpg format...
30 or 60 seconds exposures are "the best"...you spend so much time to make the photo & wait,that in the end,it really spoiles your enthusiasm.
