Tried some still life, but when it comes out the camera it was not sharp at all, this is after using editing software to shapen it up a bit and I still think it could be better

I used PhotoScape and its not very good. My Photoshop 7.0 will not install into Windows vista

It looks like you have a very shallow DOF there. The Argentinian badge is out of focus, whereas the Hungarian one if the sharpest. It appears to me that the camera has focused on the bed stitching below the subject.

What settings did you use - it looks like a high ISO with some cropping, but perhaps your shutter speed was a little too slow?

Panasonic G3: 9-18mm, 14mm, 20mm, 45mm

ISO was 3200, f2.2 and shutter speed was 1/50

There was two AF points and that was below germany and next to france

I'm not a Canon user, but a shutter of 1/50 is perhaps a little slow for an EFL of 80mm (assuming you used that 50mm prime). I would try again in better light with shutter priority set to 100 and see if that improves sharpness.

Also, in challenging light, I sometimes find burst mode helps. If you shoot 3 images in burst, then the 2nd one isn't influenced by you pressing the shutter button.

Another option would be to try again with a tripod to rule out focusing problems (by you or the camera).

I'm having similar problems with soft images, but increasing the shutter speed or using a tripod doesn't seem to help me much - maybe it could help you though.
