Does back-lighting count as shadows? Like sunsets, where you expose for the sun and everything in the foreground looks all black.

I say shadows are shadows... light casts many different shadows... even a crescent moon is a shadow and a reflection.

Hope you guys like my entry! Thinking back, I never thought I'd be able to get this shot. I discovered this place but I never thought I'd ever be able to go when the sun was out. I got very lucky. This is located in a residential area in San Francisco, CA. :)

I thought it would be really cool considering the point of Sun Dials is to cast shadows

Not really for the silhouettes either, doesn't seem to match the theme and it is too standard. Shadows is such a great theme.
May the best photo win!

EDIT: not saying photos with any form of a silhouette should be disqualified, I had just expected less of them and more true shadows...

Well, technically, a silhouette is a shadow, but I agree, maybe silhouettes could be a separate topic by themselves.

Who gives a final rule on this one, if other people think a certain submission does not fit the contest's topic? Just asking...

I was not trying to put people off voting, I thought it was in the rules but just read what was posted

Again, thanks for everyone's support and comments

Oooo, I failed to realize how much of a challenge this could be considering the changing climate and weather conditions. I guess it's time to put on those creative caps on and finds ways to do this. Its up to us Photographers to find a way to make wonders!

Hm...Just wondering, what do you all think-- would silhouettes be considered shadows (like when underexposing a picture of the sky)?

I wouldn't consider silhouettes shadows, that'd result in tons of silhouettes being posted and far less true shadows, I guess...
