You get what you pay for. It is fully manual and relatively small aperture.

As a 500mm f/8, it is roughly equivalent to a 350mm f/5.6 lens with 1/4x TC.

This website seems to explain the history of the Opton brand name

Wikipedia also mentions Opton in the history of the Zeiss brand
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Zeiss_AG

It seems these are Carl Zeiss lenses made in Germany before the end of Communism, the lenses do not have any auto focus or metering capability.
