Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how this 360 panoramas are made?

Do you need a special lens for this or it's only a software?

Thanks!

I don't know if there exists such a thing as a 360 degree spherical single lens, but certainly this method is comparatively doable with multiple shots and recombined in image processing. Those multiple shots could be taken separately, or at the same time by using more than one camera.

Wow, I love that photo, looks great!

There are 360° camera's though, not even all that expensive if you look for it:

Here's a video shot at 360°, totally weird...

That's only a horizontal 360. The one linked earlier is a whole sphere - 360 in any direction.

How is that even possible? If you look at the hand that's holding it, you can't see any piece of the camera.

You can see something in the reflection in the visor. Maybe it is one of those 360 cylindrical cameras, with an extra cameras pointing up and down to fill in the blind spots. Or possible 4 cameras in a tetrahedron arrangement, or 6 in a cube like... the possibilities are many.

I guess that's true. Interesting picture though, looks like a fun camera.

These images are often used on promotional material for small interior spaces - such as yacht cabins http://www.ipy.com/ShowBoat.asp?Show360=1&bEarly=0&sBoat=IP485 and they use some form of quick-time.

Adobe also has a panorama maker http://flashpanoramas.com/player/simple which appears to be just software which stitches a load of shots taken in both horizontal and vertical plains.

The thing is, this is perhaps simple to do on a tripod, but I've no idea how OPs linked image was created while descending under a parachute!

And car interior shots. I've always wondered how they take a full 360 inside a car. This explains some things.

Here is one method
Quote:
Using a fisheye lens which captures over 180 degrees field of view, I take one image then rotate the camera by 180 degrees to take another thus capturing the whole scene in two shots. These images are then downloaded to a computer, and stitched together using professional software.

Used by this photographer http://www.fisheyephoto.co.uk

And these people specialise in selling the kit to produce 360 degree images http://www.360tacticalvr.com/

Get a 360 shot with one lens http://www.pano-pro.com/khxc/index.php?app=gbu0&ns=display&ref=Pano%20Pro%20lens%20for%20360%20virtual%20tour%20panoramic%20equipment

The photo we are talking about wasn't taken with a normal camera.
