Bonjour tombomba2,

I took this picture in Saint-Amour, in the French Jura, with my K10D.

In this region, the fountains display elaborate pipes, as in Switzerland where I started shooting those adornated pipes. In Geneva, they are even protected during winter under a small house in wood :!:

Best regards from France,

Thanks for your response, liked your personal review.
How do you find the default settings for quality?
Do you have to tweak them, like some of the reviews I have read, to achieve good quality exposures?
What lenses would you reccomend? To start with I was looking at the Pentax 15-55mm and a Sigma 70-300 with Macro setting.

Thanks
Michael

I used my K10D first with the DA 15-55mm and the DA 50-200mm, and then with the DA* 50-135mm (and I'm still waiting for the DA* 16-50mm). So I can't tell you much about the Sigma.

I'm not a 100% happy with the DA 15-50mm, mainly due to vignetting. I was happier with the 50-200mm, with better image quality and range versatility.

However, I changed it for the Pentax DA* 50-135 f2.8 ED (IF) SDM, which is simply amazing (but more expensive indeed :( ). I posted a review  here. That combination truly matches the quality of film photography.

Pentax has launched the smc P-DA 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 ED AL(IF), with a very interesting range, but I have no idea about the quality of the pictures.

Back to basics, three comments:
  • Try and identify the kind of pictures you're planning to take: portraits, landscapes, sport, still photography... and select the lens accordingly. So you could start with a first lens, explore, then purchase another, and so on.
  • Have a look at the bundles proposed by Pentax, body + lenses, and the special holidays season rebates. As rumors about future new products are growing, the price tag of K10D is very aggressive today.
  • Don't forget about accessories, like a fast SD card, a flash, a remote control, a solid bag, a battery grip...

Good luck with your purchase and, most important of all, enjoy :)

Please note I've no link with and no interest in Pentax :)

Best regards,

Bonjour,

That's just incredible :) Since its launch end of May, this thread has been seen 10,000 times :!:

I really think the K10D is an excellent camera and deserves all that attention.

Stay tuned for more on my DA* 16-50mm user review, weather allowing :)
