The museum is a great place for the 50 1.8, great angle and fast enough for that museum lighting.

Yesterday I ordered Sony 50mm f/1.4 from J&R, will get it in couple of days. I will let you guys know when I receive it

Late to this topic.

I bought the 50mm f/1.4 before the 50mm f/1.8 was released. I have been very happy with the 50mm f/1.4 although I don't use it that often (perhaps I should).

50mm f/1.4 is a very good lens I'd say.

I just picked up my 50mm f1.8. I didn't expect to buy it this soon, but yesturday evening there was an offer that you could buy it only 99€. And this offer was only for that day.

So when I saw that advert I had to buy it right away.

So there is going to be really busy weekend up a head. I have two totally different kind of lenses to test. The Sigma 70-200 f2.8 and this 50mm prime.

And I love it already. I had a walk aroud the countryside where my parents live and suppose I got some good captures. Too bad I didn't take my laptop with me so I could download and critizise them.

Using a prime really gives new ways to take photos. And I like it a lot. I'm going to make trip around Japan, Vietnam, Kambodia and Thailand next january and february. And this lens is definitely going be with me all the time. No second guesses about it. I also like the light weight.

Each time I put the 50mm 1.4 on, the camera suddenly becomes a lightweight camera. Which is a bonus.

I was just going to ask about the 50/1.8, so glad to come across this topic.

I have a question though, what does DT stand for? I want to learn more about it and like the OP... now I'm deciding which lens to go with. I am into portraiture so I like a shallow DOF. I'm also quite happy with the lower end models so I don't really need full frame in the near future. Originally what got me interested in the 50/1.8 is Sony's product description - "great for portraits"

In Sony's (and Minolta's) offering, DT means the lens is designed for APS-C cameras.
DT stands for Digital Technology if I remember correctly.

Just another question:

Would the 50mm/1.4 Lens have the same capabilities as the 50mm/1.8 and then some? Because it looks like it. -0.4 aperture, full-frame compatible. Anything else with the 50mm/1.8 that makes it stand out that I'm missing?
