Curious, is it possible to remotely trigger this DSLR using a laptop and the supplied USB cable? If so, could you point me to the software I'd need to use for this?

Thanks! :)

Bonjour Zoeff,

Yes, it is possible :)

The software name is Pentax Remote Assistant. Normally, it's included on the Software CD supplied with the camera. I tested it with my K10D.

Now, it seems the Pentax Remote Assistant is no longer bundled with the K-7 (who knows why :?: ).

Check the  K-7 user manual and the  Pentax Remote Assistant user manual.

Best regards,

Correction, it's actually a K20D. Shouldn't matter much but still..

A few questions...

Just tested the remote assistant software and couldn't figure out how to get a live image. Is this even possible?

If it isn't, might it be possible to lock the mirror to prevent it from flipping?

I'm planning on using this DSLR for astro-photography so the mirror flip will cause a huge amount of unnecessary vibration. :(

Bonjour,

No, there's no live-view. One trick: shoot a 1st time to get the image and then a 2nd time for the real picture.

To lock the mirror, press Function, then Up, then 2 s delay.

Some parameters are managed by the Remote Assistant software and others directly on the K10D / K20D.

Have fun :)

2 seconds might not be enough but it's much better then nothing.

If I ever manage to get a decent looking image I'll be sure to post it on these forums. :D

Thanks!
