I have been having a read through the various bag reviews and something I have not seen discussed is which way people prefer to store their camera inside a bag.

I have a cheap Centon bag (which I must change as it gapes at the top) and store my D90 with the screen to the bottom of the bag and lens pointing up. I put the camera in and out of the bag holding the lens rather than the camera body.

I was just wondering how other folks store their camera, lens up/down/sideways and if you think it has any long term effect on the camera.

Most people store it with the lens down. Ideally, the lens will not touch the base of the camera bag and the dividers support the camera body but most of the time my lens is taking most of the weight. I trust the adaquate padding in both my bags.

In all my bags I don't have a choice. The body and lens will only go in one way. The shoulder bags only work lens down, my backpack only works lens up. It doesn't really matter in normal circumstances. The only possible risk area is if the kit takes a hard knock, where the lens can put stress on the mount. Some arrangements might make this worse than others.

mine goes in on its side using one of the deviders as a support for the 70-300mm on as dont like changing lenses often as the 70-300mm covers most of my photography whether this is a strain on the mount im not sure but im limited until i purchase a new case or backpack

Lens down. I can just stick my hand in and grab my d90 out and be ready for shooting. Im also a bit wary of grabbing my camera by the lens (18-55 = plastic mount..)
