From 43rumors.com

They have an e-mail from Olympus Australia claiming firmware v1.1 will be released on the 15th, improving C-AF performance. It does not state how it is improved. Firmware updates for the lenses claim improved AF performance.

Taking this cautiously, it only mentions C-AF improvement, not general for the body firmware update. The lens firmware updates claim improved performance, but you have to wonder how?

We'll have to wait and see. Less than 2 weeks to go.

.
Yep, it's happened. The firmware is upgraded in the usual way, as described here. The update description from Olympus reads as follows:
Improved operation when using C-AF (continuous AF).
    * We recommend Version 1.1 or later of the lens firmware if you are using the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F2.8 or the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 14-42mm F3.5-5.6.
Bob.

I'll let you all know when I get home and try it...

Might check the another dedicated forum before then.

Edit: I've scanned user comments elsewhere. They report a welcome improvement in single shot AF speed in good light. Comments about continuous don't sound so promising. One reported bricking their lens when the update failed (computer related).

Just put the updated firmware on... can confirm that single shot AF is a bit more responsive. Still not what I'd call fast, but a bit faster than before. Haven't tried C-AF yet - the only time I ever tried it was on BIF. No light left for that today.
