I do alot of hiking & walking my last hike was up Ben Nevis, were I took my D300 Sigma 10-20mm, Nikon 16-85mm & the 70-300mm VR Redsnapper Tripod & Ballhead all packed into a Tarmac Expedition 5x

On the way up i had to keep stopping every 15 mins because of all the weight i was carrying it really did nearly kill me in the end, but eventually i did manage to get to the top.

Now while the D300 is a great camera it just not very practical for what i do, so after a long think i decided it better to let it all go and go for something smaller.

To which I decided to buy what you see in the sig from the money I got form the D300 kit.

I also bought a small Crumpler 5500 top & the great thing is all it fit in just with hardly any weight, I also have a small camera backpack aswell that can fit camera and stuff in while still having enough room for butties drinks ect.

Anyways after a week with the E-620 I can gladly say im not missing my D300 kit one bit images are great straight out of the camera hardly need to do any PP anymore.

ISO seems pretty good to even at ISO1600 which i hardly use.

The 14-54mm Mk II is a total joy to use & only £399 for pretty fast totally sharp quality zoom, which is unbeatable at this price point you could never get a lens like this on either Nikon or Canon for £399.

Overall im very happy with this setup & can't really wait for my hiking trip with this camera.

welcome to the fourthirds family. i was considering getting the e-620 at one point, but ended up getting the e-3. at times weight can become an issue for me as well, which is why sometimes the e-520 can become a better option for me.

how do you feel about the grip of the e-620? does it every feel front heavy with the 14-54 attached?

Just curious, but did you consider the D90? It would have saved you a complete change of systems.

Hi the 14-54mm feel ok on the E-620, it seems to compliment this camera well & doesn't feel to front heavy, it anything it actually makes the camera more steady when holding than the 14-42mm does.

Wouldn't have made all that much diffrence tbh if i had gone with the D90

Mainly because i still be lugging about glass as i can never make my mind up what to take.

With the E-620, i get a body that much smaller & lighter than the D90
I've got a smaller selection of glass that is both very good quality & again light.
as i can fit all my gear into the crumpler for just day walks.

Plus i got plenty money left over still from when i sold the D300 kit, so that a bonus.

It's like i said in my OP, i have no regretts at all going with something that both smaller,lighter & simpler to use that still gives great images.

Why the 14-54 lens and not the 12-60 lens? Is it also related to size?

Obviously, there's a price difference between two.

I read more and more about people selling big semi pro and pro cameras in favor of an "always with you" type camera.

I think 4/3 and m4/3 have a very bright future.

Canon and Nikon will surely join the feather weight fight soon right?

Interesting times ahead, that's for sure.

I think this will be true as soon as 4/3 team manage to get us more high-ISO tolerance images. Once when I get somewhat usable pics on my E system at ISO1600 I will never, ever wonder how would it be if I had Nikon.

Try the E-3. And the EP-1 with trupicV is pretty good too.

yep i think the move is a good strategy. I am considering micro 4/3 (panasonic GF1) as well for daily snapshots and travel. Perhaps also for some pro work too.

For pro work, i'll still rely on nikon full frame and aps-c camera.
