Gordon, I am thinking of buying a compact camera for my partner as a birthday present, at the moment I am looking at Canon's Powershot Range in particular the G7, S3 IS and the A640.

I have read your reviews and watched the videos on the G7 and the A640 and was wondering if you have in the near future ie. the next couple of months any plans to do a review on the S3 IS.

I know that the S3 IS is only a 6 meg camera compared to the other two's 10 meg, but I quite like the idea of the 12x optical zoom.

Have downloaded the tech specs from Canon's web site for comparison but it would be nice to actually see a full review coupled with a short video.

Hi Defiant, I'm afraid I don't have the S3 IS in the pipeline. The next non-DSLRs I'm likely to look at are the Panasonic FZ8 and TZ3.

The G7 and A640 are both really neat cameras though, and the choice between them and others depends how much you value things like long optical zooms, 28mm equivalent wide angle, flip-out screens, support for RAW etc. Annoyingly few have them all, so it's a case of weighing them up!

for what it's worth i have an Ixus 850IS which I'm extremely happy with.

It's great in low light without resorting to flash thanks to the IS and the ability to ramp up the ISO, has a great wide angle view and the build quality is excellent. The image quality is good too!
