I'm back, and I've held LOTS of Gitzo products. Wow, this store had well over 20 tripods! And a good bunch of heads as well. The off center ball heads seem great for shooting, might just get one sometime!
However, there weren't too many monopods, and I couldn't find the GM3551. And I must say I was a little surpised by the quality of the G-lock system, and not in a good way. Perhaps it's because all products were demo-products, but the G-locks often got stuck and once fully extended, collapsing the leg wasn't as easy as I hoped.

I had fun though!

Gotta love the Velbon twist lock system

I had a quick go at the Velbon too. Felt cheaper (it is...), but certainly comfortable in practise!

I've never used a gitzo pod, but I certainly don't think the velbon pro series feel cheap. Maybe I because I can't compare it with something

Cheaper, not cheap. It still felt good, Gitzo felt even better.

I played with the traveler series and a few of the monopods and i loved the g lock system. the monopod i was trying felt really smooth and was quick and easy to open/close. it will take a little practice to get used to but i saw one guy open up a tripod and he did it extremely fast. i'm very excited to get one!

Watch the factory worker at about 1:00 close the monopods, he's quick too!

As far as I can tell the worker closes the monopod without unlocking them first, si I assume they were already unlocked

I think so too, but it still looks cool. And it's nice to see how the Gitzo products are manufactured!
