Hey guys, I was wondering if you have any experience with the P8600 Processor. It's a core2duo, with Intel's latest architecture. Clocked at 2.4 GHZ, 1066 FSB and 3 MB L2, does anyone know at what photoshop/Lightroom speeds I would be looking?

I am running the P8400 it is the same FSB and Cache but with a 2.26Ghz processor.

had it for about a year now. runs Photoshop CS4 well as well as Light room.

Get a minimum of 4GB of RAM tho.

P8600 2.4 GHZ 3 MB L2 1066 FSB
HD 4330 GPU 265 MB (benches crysis on full res, medium settings 22 FPS)
500 GB HDD
15.6 inch WLED 16:9 screen
4 GB DDR2 RAM (wouldn't have settled for less)
1.3 MP webcam (whoop-di-friggin-doo)
Bluetooth
Wifi card supporting ABGN (Really wanted the -N compatibility for the future)

and...9 Cells battery

nice setup, i got the Latitude E6400 very light and compact. love it

the P8400, pulls in 5.2 on vistas calcs per second. dont know how much you can put on that rating system tho.

yeah i went for the wireless N with the 3x3 antennas for max potential

I tried the Latitude 6400 and liked it, but I didn't want to pay that much extra for a tougher business class body.
So I went with the Inspiron "ooh shiny" body

A 5.2 is pretty good, and so is vista's rating system. They perform some nice decoding and encryption tests, instead of just polling a database

yeah i do a fair bit of architectural renderings. and while i use a quad core at home for the main ones, the P8400 can chug through pretty reasonably at high settings. I dont hesitate to use it for a render if i have a deadline.

NOTE: for some reason flickr absolutely ruins the colours of my computer generated images? maybe an incompatible colour space?

Nice one. I used to render on a P4 3 GHZ (don't laugh), until I switched to a 3 GHZ quadcore. I pesume the 8600 is somewhere in between, but more on the faster side?

My friend's laptop has this P8600 inside and it doesn't strike me as being any faster than my T8300* in real word usage. Can't comment on LR/PS usage, sorry Marijn.

I suspect that the 3mb cache will be the limiting factor so I don't think you will see much extra speed from the 1066mhz FSB especially if the RAM is only 800mhz.

I'd say you'd be looking at very average speeds.

i went for the high speed 7,200 rpm HDD

thats always a winner.

just wish i had the cash for a solid state hard drive, that would increase the speed heaps.

3 MB cache is quite a lot for a dualcore, considering my quad only has 4.
the 1066FSB is nice to have as it speeds up everything in the system (PCI etc.), not just the processor.

Thanks for all the input guys, I'm at peace and pretty confident photo editing on the laptop (if neccesary) will be smooth enough

My Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 is OK for editing my 40D images, it does struggle a fair bit with my 5DMkII ones.
