I have just purchased an e520 and would like to know what type of memory card works best. I am completely new to the slr world but very eager to learn. If you have any input I would greatly appreciate it!

in my e-520 i currently use a transcend 4 gig card. it's only 133x writing speed, works for what i need it to do. in my e-3 i have a 16-gig A-Data CF card. in both cameras i also have an xd card just as an emergency backup.

xD cards are a useless proprietary format that is not only more expensive than CF, but also inferior.

Just get CF.

CF is definitely the way to go.
