This is now in stock in the UK. Various shops are selling it. Here's one for £479.

I noticed that too. Few reviews popping up but not at my more favourite sites. Doesn't seem like any miracles in optical performance for the lens class, even if HSM is a nice feature I don't think it'll be worth swapping to it from the Tamron.

Yeah, well one day they'll come out with a 18-250mm HSM lens with constant f2.8 aperture and a minimum focusing distance of 20mm giving you true 1:1 macro with fantastic sharpness throughout the entire zoom range.

Ok, I'll stop dreaming now ...

Heads Up! Shutterbug, July 2009 issue, just named this lens the BEST ENTRY LEVEL LENS. I like that!

In another thread is a link to a magazine posted online, which happens to include a review of the 18-250. They seem to like it, saying it is better than the Sony/Tamron 18-250.

Still waiting to get a definitive comparison between it and the Tamron 18-270 though.

There was a review of this lens some time ago published at BJP. A more complete review with sample photos by the same author is available at his own site.

It sounds like a really excellent lens. I've used the Sony 18-250 for quite a bit and if this lens is better, it would make a very decent travel lens.
