So anyhoo!... this is a crop of a seed pod from a palm specimen in East London, sunny SA. Here's the link to the original: http://www.flickr.com/photos/39932716@N ... 7/sizes/o/

First post in a long time, been too busy moving between countries lately; hopefully will be posting often again.

Canon 40D
Trinocular microscope x60
1/125s
Externally lit using tungsten halogen bulb and light pipes.

A series of images were focus stacked using Helicon Focus - this gives a huge depth of focus (like an SEM image) - but you have the added bonus of colour. Sharpened using Noel Carboni's Fractal Sharpening routine.

This is a tiny section of Morpho Rhetenor butterfly wing (underside).

POLLS ARE CLOSED!

Apologies for the delay in announcing the winner of June’s Assignment!

Congratulations to Cameralabs regular lensbaby for their win with 20% of the votes. Coming joint second are mikeroch and Orsan Kart with 11% each, followed by lewisleu in close third with 10% of the votes. A great assignment with some really imaginative entires – thanks for setting the theme mikeroch, and thanks to everyone who entered.

As always this means the winner, lensbaby, gets to choose the theme for our next assignment in August. Lensbaby, you have until the 31st of July to let us know the theme, although as always, the sooner we know, the sooner we can start thinking about it! Please post the theme in the June Comments thread.

Gordon
