8- Depth of Field Test

The following 3 pictures were taken at 50,0 mm - 1/125 sec - f4 - ISO 100.

In auto-focus SEL mode, I selected the far area...

the middle area...

the front area...

Each area is less than 10cm / 3" far from the others.

Bonsoir Gordon,

Looking back at the pictures of this review, the difference between the DA* and the DA doen't seem as big as for the DA* 50-135mm and the DA 50-200mm :? . During the comparison test, weather was foggy and fall light was poor :( .

However, pictures taken at Chartres were very promising :) and give a better idea of the quality of the DA* 16-50mm lens.

Are there specific tests and conditions to check a 16-50mm lens :?:

Hi Rei, I wouldn't say anything specific for testing a 16-50mm - just the usual comparisons in the edges at open apertures at a variety of focal lengths...

As always, you're doing a really good job!

Bonsoir,

Tonight, I went to the Champs Elysées and took some pictures with my bold new DA* 16-50mm, obviously with the shake reduction switched on :)

The K10D was on P mode (set to MTF, hence the f4 aperture), and AWB. All the pictures are un-processed.

Enjoy :!: This is my present to CameraLabs team members and readers for New Year

Due to very low light conditions, the AF had some difficulties to hang on. I switched it off and focused manually.

All the pictures are in this  album.

I selected two pictures and cropped the 600 x 600 top left area.

It gives an idea of the quality of the lens. No major purple fringing around the  lights, no colour aberration near the branches, and plenty of sharp details :)

I really doubt I could have such fine pictures with my old 18-55mm :!:

Bonsoir,

On my review, I wrote
Quote:
All this comes at a price. [...] Another consequence is the need of a stronger bag.

So I went for a stronger (and bigger) bag :D

Please find my  Lowepro Rezo 190 AW Camera Bag User Review.

Enjoy :!:

Bonsoir,

I received questions about the macro capabilities of the 16-50mm. Here are some shots taken during my summer holidays. Enjoy :)

Bonjour,

See how this lens performs on bokeh compared with other DA* lenses.

Please check my  Pentax DA* Lenses Bokeh User Review.

Bonjour,

I've never tried the dust- and water-sealing of my K10D and DA* 16-50mm SDM lens. But today, I had no alternative :( .

I was visiting the Giverny museums and Monet's gardens, when it started raining. I rushed under the trees, looking for protection. But droplets went on my camera  . Then I remembered the marketing said my camera and lens were water-sealed. Was marketing true :?:

Check the  full story with pictures :!:

Bonjour,

I'm still very happy with my Lowepro Rezo 190 AW camera bag: it carries all my gear safely.

But it isn't exactly the best when going out-door, especially with the DA* 60-250 f/4 SDM tele-zoom. So I went for the Lowepro Micro Trekker 200.

Check my  User Review on Camera Labs or the  full review with more pictures on my website.

Enjoy :)
