I read the rules and previous posts on this topic and I'm not sure if this is allowed or not so I though I better ask first before going ahead and doing it! Is it OK to make a change to your image after you've submitted it or are all submissions final? I just want to crop the sides off.

Hi Mark,

Obviously it is preferable for entries not to be resubmitted as the "voters" may have already formed their opinions and not notice the change. I am not sure that this issue has been discussed but, despite my opening remark, my gut feeling is "go ahead" because voting hasn't started yet.

Changing entries after the closing date is obviously not appropriate and I, for one, would disqualify any entry whose containing post was edited after that date.

Bob.

Studini: How do you call that material you used to get the plain white background (without the usual "corner" where the "wall" would meet the "floor")?

ChinaMark: My personal opinion is that, as things are at this moment, you could edit it. But it would be best if each entry was to be final, for the reason Bob has stated. Maybe this could be clarified at the start of the next assignment (not change the photo, only edit technical information or commentary).

The trick is to use a piece of plain white paper but have a rounded corner, its used in studio work to 'fake infinity'.

Thanks for your replies. I agree that entries certainly shouldn't be edited after a certain date and definitely not after the closing date. Maybe in the future a rule can be set or a cut off date set for changes. The competition should be fair of course, but it's also a great learning experience for everyone. People post images and they inspire you to do better so I think it would be good if you were able to change and even replace your image up to a certain date so that everyone can be as creative as possible and given the chance to try things that they wouldn't have otherwise thought of then the best pictures will always be there for posterity.

So as it's still early on in the competition, I'll go ahead and crop mine. I'm sure it will have no bearing on the final outcome but for me, if I didn't get the chance to crop it, I'd always be kicking myself as to why I didn't do it in the first place!

If there's any strong objection to this later on, I'll be happy to revert it to the original dimensions.

Thanks.

Hi James,

Congratulations on your first post and entry (here). That's what I call hitting the ground running.

A very warm welcome to the CameraLabs forums.

Bob.

P.S. I cleaned up your "url" string in your entry by removing an extra " ". That allowed the image to become clickable.

Welcome, James H! And that's what I call a great start.

Was that a single blue led light, as is sometimes seen on keyrings?

Yeah Luis, I was playing around lighting it in different ways, then I tried the led light on my car keys!...it's that bluish white abit like xenon headlights.

Hi James, that's a really great pic! The perspective kinda makes it look really dramatic. Well done!

Hi 45B30,

A warm welcome to the CameraLabs forums.

Thomas created a mini-tutorial here which should get you started on how to include photos in your posts. We'll look forward to seeing them. 8)

Bob.
