I think you must spend lot's of time capturing these two pictures
I really can't say I composed these images when shooting, because with insects, you usually don't have the time to spend much thought on how to shoot them. The result are many sucky pictures and some really good ones. The good ones, you crop the right way to make it seem like you composed something.
On the other hand, what am I talking? Of course I composed these shots cause I'm pro!
As to your question:
The 40-150mm is not made for macro work. You would need an additional lens like the raynox 250 to get decent results. I would prefer the 70-300 any day, even though it weights more.
