MIDNIGHT GMT 21ST JUNE 2009 - POLLS CLOSED: WE HAVE A WINNER!

With 11% of the votes, Laurel has won May's Assignment - congratulations! Coming a close second with 8% of the votes is shallowlife, and in joint third place are mikeroch and daisy with 7% each.

Congratulations to everyone who entered!

As always, this means Laurel gets to choose the theme for next month's Assignment, and has until midnight GMT on the 30th of June to tell us what it is, along with any conditions. Laurel, please let us know the theme in the May 2009 comments thread, and if you can do it before the 30th, that'd give us time to have a think about it!

MIDNIGHT GMT 31ST MAY 2009 - SUBMISSIONS CLOSED!

VOTE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE!

Hi everyone! Welcome to May's Assignment!

The theme for this month is "Delicate", as suggested by Sublimity who won the March 2009 competition.

In Sublimity's own words: "The theme for May is Delicate: the quality of being easily broken or damaged; fragility; brittle. Bodily weakness; liability to sickness; frailty. Some suggestions would be something luxurious, tristful, ephemeral, transitory, and so on. Don't hesitate to make your own interpretations! Moderate post-processing allowed to develop atmosphere for the concept."

The rules!

1: You can only submit one image and it has to be taken during May 2009. Photos taken earlier will be disqualified!

2: All images submitted must be no more than 500 pixels on their longest side, although you can include a link to a full resolution version if you like. Flickr users must link back to the original version to comply with its latest rules.

As always, please exercise good judgement on what is suitable for the forum. See the Forum Rules for guides.

Please include a sentence or two with your photo describing what you were trying to achieve and if there were any particular challenges in doing so like, for example, any special exposure or lighting setup.

We're all enthusiasts here, so it's also great to see what equipment you used and the settings too. So please also include the following:

Camera Model:
Lens and focal length:
Aperture:
Shutter Speed:
Sensitivity:
Post processing:

Submissions will close at midnight GMT on 31st May 2009. The final poll will follow.

Please remember this thread is for submissions only. If you'd like to comment on any of the submissions or ask any questions, please do so in the May 2009 Comments and Questions thread!

Thanks and good luck!

Gordon

Shot first thing this morning against the light to try and pick up the slight iridescence in the silken threads of the web. I was attracted by the Hard v Soft nature of the components of the picture.

Title: Delicate Balance

In these trying economic times, balancing the household budget is a very delicate balance. This is especially true for amateur photographers with a gear lust (like me!).

Camera Model: Canon EOS 40D
Lens and focal length: Tamron 28-75mm, at 75mm.
Aperture: f2.8
Shutter Speed:1/250
Sensitivity:ISO 400
Post processing: Levels, unsharp mask, added some gaussian noise, converted to black and white.

Hi everyone,
To me loading a film was always a delicate operation compared to just sliding a memory card in the slot. There was always a sense of hit and miss, will the film wind on once you've closed the cover.

Here is what I came up with:

Aperture: f18 for the top three and f16 fot the bottom one
Shutter Speed:1/60
Sensitivity: 125
