Good choice.......AA batteries and weatherproofing, plus room for creative growth with the body as you learn.
A zoom in the 16-105 range with f2.8/ f4 would be nice but I don't see one in the line up...........perhaps next month.

i actually got a bundle that come w. a regular 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 Len and a 50-200mm F4-5.6 Len
maybe get one w. f2.8 later(surely it will cost alot though....:? )

For me the key to noise free photo's in low light conditions would be faster lenses. Stay out of the +800 ISO range to begin with.

Noise is today's film grain........you avoided grain with faster lenses, lower ASA/ISO film speeds and improved processing techniques. The processing techniques are now JPEG engines and computer software.

The one constant...........faster lenses, and that usually means prime lenses.

Faster......smaller F stop. Smaller the number faster the lens.
i.e...........F4 is one stop faster than F5.6...........that would mean you could use ISO 800 with a lens with a minimum aperture of F4 while you would need ISO 1600 for a lens with a minimum aperture of f5.6. ISO 3200 for a lens with a minimum aperture of F8

The shutter speed/aperture/ISO numbers are all mathematically interconnected.

You could also lengthen the shutter speed but in low light you want to avoid camera shake.

EG: 1/15 @ F4 800 ISO...... is the same as 1/15 @ F5.6 at 1600 ISO.......which is the same as 1/8 @ F 5.6 at 800 ISO.

Looked into currencey exchange for the K200D

Here in Canada it is retailing for $599 with the 18-55mm kit lens.

$599 Canadian = 381.083 EURO

$599 Canadian = 129,896.68 GRD (Greece) Which it says you no longer use that currency.

$599 Canadian = 505.833 USD (USA)

So basically it is around the same in most countries. Its going for around $379 euro or $560 USD

If price is an issue you may want to look into the pentax KM/K2000. Almost all the same features just not weahter sealed and lower focus points.

Where have you seen the K200D at $599 in Canada?

I went in to look at the Pentax cameras this weekend in Shanghai. One of the store owners said the 200D is no longer available from his distributor.
This jives with the end of the month announcement that Pentax will make about a new camera.................maybe it's an updated 200D.

It's already one of the best built lower price level models, far superior in "feel" quality than Sony, Nikon, Canon and Olympus at that price level. The kit lenses look well made also.

Excellent bank for the buck cameras. I noticed that the assembly as done in Vietnam (not that there is anything wrong with that) at least the kit lenses were. Will give the product a bit of an advantage price wise against product made or assembled in China or Japan. Doesn't appear to be affecting the quality at all.

If the replacement came out with liveview, tiltable screen and video recording it could be a world beater with a bit of advertising, the 200D should be as it is........seems Pentax is getting away from the numbers game with the introduction of the km model.........maybe the new one will be the ka or km super or even ko.........knockout !

Yeah I heard the K200D was discontinued overseas however here they must be selling off the last of them. Two weeks after I bought my K200D, i found out they were Discontinuing it. Was kinda a bummer but im still very happy with the camera itself so no worries.

I read here somewhere that Pentax was NOT putting out new models this year (recession).
In my research I also found that numbers of the K200 were getting low even in Canada which kind of sped my purchase along some.
Just the body for me was $700 out the door.
I "might" have done a little better by driving to the city but factoring 4hrs driving and definately a stop at my favourite resturaunt for Calamari,Garlic bread, salad & Corona, plus the other half's meal and her shopping.....
I did OK shoping where I did

After a few pics and sunny days...

I'M LOVIN" IT!!!!!

Yup I do...

Things I miss in the city...Calamari
Things I DON'T miss
crackheads, junkies, sirens, streetlights, smog, muggers, traffic jams or just plain traffic and idiot drivers.

Plus's in the country...
I know every one of my nieghbours for miles around..first and last names their phone #'s and their kid's names
always knowing where my auto/house keys are-in the ignition
peace n quiet
critters...everywhere, I'd rather deal with a PO'd bear than a jonesing junkie!!!
Fresh air
Crickets and frogs chirpin spring and summer...

The list is endless,I get stressed just driving back there for a visit!!!
